Berkeley City Hall

Berkeley, California
Civic

Designed in 1907 by the prestigious firm of Bakewell and Brown (architects for the San Francisco and Pasadena City Halls), the building is affectionately referred to as “Old City Hall” and is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. Carey & Co. served as preservation architect for exterior repairs. The scope of work included testing and restoration of the exterior stucco, ornamental metal, wood doors and windows, and slate roof. A particularly challenging aspect was the removal, repair, seismic strengthening, and reinstallation of the 60-foot lantern and spire. The project won an award from the Berkeley Architectural Heritage Association.
