International House

Berkeley, CA
Educational | Residential

Designed by prominent San Francisco Architect George Kelham in 1930, this handsome Mission Revival style building stands on a hillside at the edge of the UC Berkeley Campus. Carey & Co. prepared a long-term improvement plan, and then implemented improvements as funds became available while the building remained occupied. Key improvements included a new corridor detail to conceal building systems and enhance lighting, as well as renovations to dormitory rooms, student lounge, restrooms, café, and the main dining room. Exterior paint, re-roofing, waterproofing, and new landscaping completed the building’s rehabilitation.
