Murphy Windmill

Constructed in 1906, the Murphy Windmill stands at the western edge of Golden Gate Park. At 95 feet high and with 140 foot diameter rotating sail stocks, it is believed to be the largest windmill of its kind in the world. The severely deteriorated tower underwent a complete rebuild using as much historic material as could be salvaged. The dismantled running gear and sail stocks were shipped to the Netherlands for rehabilitation by a specialty contractor.
