REA Building

Constructed in 1925, the REA Building once housed a post office and the Railway Express Agency – at one time the country’s largest ground and air express service. As a result of years of neglect and vandalism, the two-story structure was in very poor condition, with a collapsed roof and several broken windows. Carey & Co. served as preservation consultant for this rehabilitation tax credit adaptive reuse project. In addition, the firm provided technical conservation services, specifically focusing on the restoration of the brick masonry exterior, terra cotta balustrade, and steel sash windows.
